What exactly does a person have to obtain to work in a nail salon/beauty salon doing nails?

this is in ohio - do you have to pay to go to cosemetology school or can it be done online? someone help me out here ive been doing nails all my life and im looking to do it for a partime job now that i know some people with salons. What exactly does a person have to obtain to work in a nail salon/beauty salon doing nails?
You have to go to cosmetology school and log in the amount of school hours required in your state in order to be certefied. To get an actual cosmetology liscense is usually 1500 hours, like a year or year and a half worth of school. I think to get certification for nail technician and doing nails takes less time, although you wouldn't have a cosmetology license. Depends on your state. You have to do it in person, that's not something you can learn online.

How do u get fake nail glue off of your nails after your done taking them off?

hey guys will u please answer my question but i had fake nails on and i want to take them off so i did. but now i want to paint my regular nails with nail polish but they cant be painted with clue on them! eek!How do u get fake nail glue off of your nails after your done taking them off?
They have special removers for fake nails and remover, try cooking oil and a bit of acetone or nail polish remover, don't apply polish on the same night, try vaseline overnight in some gloves or socks You can also use a buffer nail shiner or fine side of an emery board.

How can you take off fake acrylic nails without buying stuff to take them off with?

You really got some, um, great answers, LOL! Sorry, but soaking them in hot water isn't going to do it. And non-acetone nail polish remover? Wow, never heard that one before. Either way, it won't work. You need acetone. Period. Don't listen to anyone who tells you to rip them off. Where did you people learn this stuff from, anyway? Its not the way to remove nails. You do not pry, rip, or tear acrylic nails, ever. It will ruin your natural nails. There simply is not a way to remove them without either 1) Going to a salon to have them removed, but go to a good salon. One that knows what they are doing and won't do something foolish like try to tear them off your nails with nippers or something. Bad idea. Or 2) Buy some pure acetone and soak your acrylic nails in it for at least a half hour before gently scraping the softened acrylic off your nails with an orange stick. If any acrylic remains on your nails, simply soak them for another 5-10 minutes, and try again. Oh, and people? Acrylic nails are not glued on, only the tip is, and that if the tech even uses a tip. A good tech will always sculpt the nail and not use tips. Tips are for amateurs.

I stand corrected...There are some cases in which tips should be used because sculpting would not be appropriate in some isolated cases. Maybe I should word it a bit differently? Any nail technician who uses tips exclusively for the application of gel and/or acrylic nails is very limited in their ability to do nails because - in MY opinion, practically anyone can do nails with tips. Sculpting is a skill, one that requires advanced training, and a lot of practice to master. Conversely, a person can be taught to use tips and create a halfway decent - though not perfect, set of nails in a matter of only a day or two. Unfortunately there are a lot of nail techs who go to nail school, and never go any further than that in terms of continuing education. Those same techs are the ones who do nails the same way every time no matter what. I've seen cases where a tech may have been doing nails for 15-20 years, and they are still using the exact same methods they were taught in school. While this may be OK for some people, the problem, as I see it, is that many if not most nail schools have instructors that aren't really qualified to be teaching nails in the first place. Many people who teach in nail schools are very limited in their abilities, and as a result, their students leave school with few skills, and too often they are taught improper techniques as well. And way too often nail programs place a great deal of emphasis on the state boards and teach their students only what is required in order to pass them. This means spending much of your time on things such as proper sanitation and disinfection. Yeah, that's all fine and dandy, but where is the 'beef'??? Where is the instruction and hands on training for the proper application of nails? I hear it time and time again from new technicians fresh out of school. They so often say that they didn't learn how to do nails while in school. And why not? Because many schools are concerned with a high pass rate on the state boards so that they can show high numbers in that area that they can use to attract new students by implying their training is successful because hey, we have a very high pass rate so we are obviously a good school- wrong...This only benefits the schools while the students leave the programs with a very limited amount of ability to do what they went to school for in the first place - to do nails. Nuff said, Ummm, I'm rather opinionated when it comes to these sort of things, I guess, LOL...

As a side note: Anyone who is familiar with my answers will know that I have had a little, um, 'fun' here and there just to see what kind of reaction I would get from people. Its really kind of funny to see that when I post a totally incorrect answer like ';Oh, just tear them off';, or like ';oh yes, its very normal to be in pain after getting your nails done'; LMAO...Yet, I've gotten the thumbs up more often than not with these answers. But, telling people the right way to do things often results in many thumbs down since so many people are uneducated in this area and do not like to be told that they are wrong. Ah well, I found it interesting anyway, lol.How can you take off fake acrylic nails without buying stuff to take them off with?
haha cattygrl..I seem to be following you around. Are you a nail tech too?

I agree with most of what you say except for the last sentence, I generally sculpt, but sometimes it is necessary to use tips if the client has the type of nails that you just cant fit a form on. A true professional knows how to do both tips and scuplts, they know what application is needed for each individual.

As to the rest of the posters, are you guys chemists? you know the chemical make up of the products used? and how to break that chemical link that will remove the product from her nails?

Water can break down a lot of things but there is no way it will completely break the cross linking polymerization that has happened in acrylic nails.

Soaking your nails in acetone is really the only safe and least damaging way to remove acrylic nails. Go to a salon that does this and you will find that they will also (in the price of the soak off) provide you with a mini manicure. How can you take off fake acrylic nails without buying stuff to take them off with?
The best way to take them off is with fingernail polish remover. You just have to let them soak..this is going to take some time. Depending on how old they are, if they are older than 2 weeks you should be able to lift them off by clipping around them. Be careful you nails will be very weak after you remove them.
You pick at them slowly bit by bit. Also suck them in water and pick them off there. I know you dont want to buy anything so if you have nail polish remover you can soak your nails in there then continue to pick them off.
Try sticking your hands in warm water. Let them sit there a bit, a few minutes then slowly peeling them off. But it depends, if you used a lot of glue they may not come off.
Acetone doesn't work on acrylic, you have to soak your nails in non acetone remover and they will come off with no damage
you can take them off yourself..but you will still have acrylic on your nails..and sometimes its painful and parts of the nail comes off.....
u could rip them off but it might jack up your nails pretty bad.

try soaking them in nail polish remover, that usually works.
hot water and pulling them off but that damages you own nails. the best way is to soak them off in normal acid tone...
soak in hot watr and slowly aftr long soaking piece off nail
i use to rip mine off.

it didnt really hurt. :D

  • How to cut my dog's overgrown nails?

We havent cut my dog's nail in over a year and a half. They are really long nails. He is very fussy when we try to cut them. Now do we cut them? when we take him to the pet store, they cut off about a millimeter. How to cut my dog's overgrown nails?
Get a grinder and see if you can get a good groomer to teach you how to do his nails. You need to do them regularly to get them back. I usually try to get to mine at least every other week - they stand or sit and allow me to pick up their feet and grind the nails back but then they are used to it and have been trained that I am going to do it. It is like any grooming, if you do it regularly, they learn to accept it better than if you allow them to go neglected for months and months and then expect them to accept something that is frightening to them. The pet store groomers or vets are not going to amputate the dog's toenails down far just because you haven't been responsible for the dog's proper grooming. Why should the dog suffer horribly for that -- you need to be dilegent and simply learn to do it properly and then do it on a very regular basis and frequently to get them back to a reasonable lenght (where they do not touch the ground). I start my dogs off when they are nursing and continue throughout their puppyhood - just easier to get them used to proper grooming. I also clean their ears when I do their nails and check them over for any issues - just part of taking care of a dog.How to cut my dog's overgrown nails?
When the nails are that far overgrown, your dog needs to go to a vet and be put under for a ';good cuttin';. Dogs have veins (quiks) running through their nails and if your dog hasn't had them cut in over a year the vein has definitely grown to the tips (all the way through). That is why the pet store only cuts a little because if they cut anymore they will bleed and cause the dog some pain. If that happens, your dog will never let anyone cut his nails again. He will associate and remember the pain as a bad experience.

Once you have his nails under control get them cut once every 2 weeks. If you don't want to take your dog to get them cut, talk to your vet and they will gladly show you how to properly trim your dogs nails at home.
Yes, you should cut them. The quick is certainly grown far out on these nails because they have not been trimmed in so long. I would take him to a vet to get them done. If you do it yourself a trick my dogs groomer told me is if you look at the nail from the back you can see the quick in the little opening that runs down the back of the nail. You want to cut below that.

There is also a device they are advertising that shows you where to cut.
you can cut them yourself or take him to your vet and he can do it. you'll need professional nail cutters, not the cheap kind, because they crunch the nail which can lead to pressure on the skin under the nail and that could hurt the dog and make him not want to walk. it's easier to cut their nails if they have clear nails. if they have black ones it's sort of harder, so if your dog has black nails take him to the vet so you don't accidently mess up. if your dog does have clearish nails, take him to some place in your house thats quiet and bright. take his paw up and look at his nails at the light. theres the tip of his nail then a pink thing. cut the nail quickly with a little force to prevent smashing of the nail. cut it right above the pink skin, making sure not to touch the pink skin at all.. it'll hurt your dog and he might bight and it will bleed. i like having my vet do it when i take my dogs to get their yearly shots or when i take them twice a year for worming. the vet does it for about $10 extra and he does a nice job. i wouldn't always trust a pet store to cut your best friends nails.. they could hurt him and since they aren't as professional as the vet, they could cut it wrong, make him bleed, and not know what to do. not to mention, they don't wash the cutters after they use it on a dog....
When a dog's nails have not been trimmed in a while, the quick (blood vein) also grows. It is easy to see on white nails, but not visible in black nails. You will have to clip just a little every couple of weeks until you get the nails at the proper length. As you clip, the quick will recede each time.
If you feel like doing it yourself, buy a muzzle so that he can't bite you. Also, have him on a leash. If he does good, give him a lot of treats or pats telling him ';good boy'; so he knows it will be okay. Oh and supposedly don't tell him ';it's okay'; because he will think something is wrong, making him act crazy. If that doesn't work, take him to the vet.
well too cut ur pets nails u must see closely and see if u see the red in is nail the blood try keeping away from the blood part and cut is nail like that cuz if u dont do it like that u may hirt ur animal!
check out this page on how to trim a dog's nails. It even covers black nails and dew claws. I would definatly recommend having one person hold him while the other one clips.
i would take him to a groomer or vet..have the vet do it them..have him show you how to do it so you can do it yourself once every 2 weeks
i always take my dogs to the vet to get them done, they cut them and then file them down so they arent so sharp it costs about $12 to get both things done
take them to a vet..thats the only possible way to get your dog's nails cut..
If he is fussy in a vicious way, first get a muzzle.

If he is fussy in an ';I don't want my nails clipped so I'm going to squirm and run'; way, and is a generally gentle-natured dog, then you probably don't need a muzzle.

But either way, so he doesn't move and hurt himself, I would have a strong, dominant person hold him in place so he can't squirm and cause you to cut into the quick and make it bleed or anything of the sort.

I would reccommend for the long nails a Dremel tool. You can just barely file off the end of every nail. Each time the nail is shortened, the quick recedes a little bit. You should start off in small amounts though because the quick is probably very close to the surface of the nail and will bleed if you hit it. Do it every week until they are to a proper length. It might take awhile but it'll be safe and they'll look so much better in the end.

Also, try to be very positive while you're doing it. Instead of scolding him when he squirms, reward when he sits still. We got my dog from the humane society and she was deathly afraid of everything, especially getting her nails trimmed. She now loves it because I put her on her back and sit on the floor. I then ';cradle'; her between my legs (this works even on the biggest dogs). It shows them both dominance and security. Then, after every nail I got done, I would praise her, give her a belly rub, and a small piece of a treat. When she'd squirm and fight, I just stayed calm until she stayed still and then trimmed her nail and gave the praising process. She quickly learned sitting still means good things. She now loves the weekly nail trimmings!

Just try to remember to stay calm and don't get frustrated. Once you get it down, it's easy. Good luck on the trimming!

Oh, and if you do accidentally hit the quick and it starts bleeding, don't panic. You can put flour, corn starch, or a product called quickstop on the end and it'll stop. Or just wait a few minutes and it will naturally.

How do I do my own acrylic nails?

Does anyone know how I should go about doing my own acrylic nails? I want them to look nice for prom...but I am not exactly sure how to do it, and what stuff I would need. Also...how much do you think it would cost to buy all the stuff I need?

Thanks! How do I do my own acrylic nails?
Doing acrylic nails is something you have to really LEARN, it's not easy.

If you don't want to go get them done, just get snap on ones from the drugstore.

But I can say two of my girlfriends got their nails done like that for prom at a cheap place and they snapped off throughout the night. You're better off, if you really want them to look nice for prom, to get them done professionally. How do I do my own acrylic nails?
It's probably about 15. I wouldn't do it yourself I would let a friend do it. You can't do it yourself with one hand and with nails on lol.

Can you clip a puppies nails with human nail clippers?

I have a 7 wk old puppy whose nails are extremely sharp and long. Shes a tea cup Shih tzu so her nails are also very small. Would cutting them with human nail clippers hurt her?

ps. I know how to cut dogs nails, just not too sure how to cut hers...Can you clip a puppies nails with human nail clippers?
sure you can use human toe nail clippers, but if you do not know how far to cut, you'll cut the quick and if you don't know how to stop the breeding, you'll have another problem

go to pet smart or your Vet they chage like 10.00 to 11.00 to clip nails

    its safe

also if you got your puppy wihtout shots now or at 8 weeks old when 1st shot is due,ask your Vet to clip nails

once your puppy has had all its shots walking on cement will keep his/her nails trimmed

so fo now they will grow like weeds and every 2 to 3 weeks they need a trimCan you clip a puppies nails with human nail clippers?
Absolutely - in fact, I use the infant nail clippers you'd find in the drugstore in the baby section for all puppies and small dogs. They just catch the hook on the tip, which is just what you need to nip off.

You will be able to see the quick, which is the non-nail part of the claw, at the core. That's where the nerves are, as well as the blood supply. That's what you %26lt;don't%26gt; want to clip, or it'll be painful, and teach the puppy that she doesn't want you doing that.

But if you use the infant nail clippers, you should be able to just nip off the tiny tips, and leave a triangle. Make sure you extend the toe by squeezing at the base, which will give you a better view of what you're working on.
I cut the puppies claws with human nail clippers up to about 4 weeks when they get too thick, then I use proper nail clippers. Bear in mind I have large breeds. It will only hurt if you get the quick of the nail and then it bleeds like nobodys business, make sure you have something to stop the bleeding. Those electric filers scare the heck out of me, having seen some horrible results when inexperienced people have tried to use them.

By the way, what is a teacup shih tzu, I have never heard of one of those?
no no no no!!!! unlike humans dogs have blood vessels within their nail and if you cut them the bleeding can be severe and extremely painful for the pup.!!

you should never ever use a human clipper. You can buy the doggy filer thing. I'm not sure of the exact name but its all over the TV. It rotates sort of filing the dogs nail without clipping or going too low. It's inexpensive and lasts a very long time. it's really a great thing to have.

hope that helps! good luck with the pup!
You might want to watch the groomer do it the first time. Ask questions so you know for the next time. you do it. I think you will need two people as most dogs squirm. As I understand it the quick can grow quire long in these little fellas. So you really need to be on solid ground.
You can but it doesn't work well. I use human clippers for my cats claws because I get better results, but dog claws are more round and pet clippers would work best.

You can do it though, I use to with my small breed dog.
Umm....No. That is not a good idea. That could hurt them and the clippers might not be sharp enough to cut there thick nails. You will probably need to go to either a like Wal MArt or a pet store and get Special dog clippers!
    Hi!

It is possible to cut a dogs nails with human nail clippers, but it is not recommended at all! To clip a puppies nails you should get, dog nail clippers!

Good luck, and congrats on your new puppy.
There are no tea cup Shih Tzus. All dogs nails are the same. Take her to the vet if you are unsure about cutting the nails.
NO! you will hurt the poor puppy u need to use doggy clippers and if you don`t know how to use them ask a near by veterinary for help with them.
Human nail clippers are easier to use on very small dogs because the nails are so tiny. So, yes, it is fine to use them.
no no no! that is EXTREMELY dangerous for the dog.
No you need to use dog nail clippers.
No I would use the normal clippers you would use on a dog.
yes, then cat clippers for the small dogs.

I've got my school formal coming up and i've got a red dress and black heels, but what colour should I paint my finger nails and toe nails?

You could do a classic french manicure on both (and you could put like a red flower on one finger and one toe of each hand and foot). or maybe a french on your nails and a red color close to the dress on your toes. What colour should i paint my toe nails?
the dark vampy is in right now, but I'd still recommend classic red or bright pink. Check out illamasqua colors- the best.
Why don't you try something orginal, like a reddish/ orange color. I am wearing one by sally hansen and I keep getting compliments on it. Its bold and beautiful!
Either a french manicure or a nude. If you go with a red and it doesn't match your dress exactly it will clash.
french manicure red toes w/ diamonds
Magenta, or apple color geen. something that will give someone a wow feeling. how about a rare halloween color?
paint your toes black, and for you fingers, just do clear, or a french manicure
